Befriend the vibrant townsfolk of your growing frontier valley, build meaningful relationships from acquaintances up to life partners, and unlock new narrative paths in the cooperative settlement sandbox.
Mythwind: Friends & Family Expansion (published by Open Owl Studios) introduces a rich social dimension to the open-ended, persistent village-building world of Mythwind. In the base game, players settle an enchanted valley as asymmetric pioneers without rigid win conditions. Friends & Family expands this cooperative sandbox by giving life to the local villagers who arrive as new community buildings are constructed—such as Aidan joining the town when the Printing Press is built. The primary gameplay objective centers on interpersonal relationship building and social optimization: players spend actions to socialize with villagers, level up friendships, and unlock narrative milestones, branching story arcs, and special gameplay perks.
The primary mechanical hurdle stems from integrating the new Socialize action and managing cooperative worker allocation on villager cards. When visiting buildings tied to local residents, players can assign workers to roll character dice, building rapport that progresses acquaintances into friends, best friends, and ultimately life partners with unique relationship stories. Furthermore, every playable character gains tailored ways to interact with every other character in play, turning the settlement into a tightly knit, deeply interconnected community. Designed for 1 to 4 players aged 14 and up, sessions integrate seamlessly into ongoing campaign saves. To truly make your settlement feel like home, you must foster community ties, pursue deep personal stories, and weave the lives of the villagers into the fabric of your valley.
