Race to connect animal fronts to their matching rears, mimic animal sounds at breakneck speed, and slap the poop patch in a frantic, laugh-out-loud visual reflex card game.
May Contain Butts (created by Professor Puzzle / Ginger Fox and distributed in North American retail by partners including Asmodee and Outset Media) puts an irreverent, cheekily illustrated spin on classic real-time pattern matching. Trading serious deduction for high-speed physical reactions and silly vocalizations, the game delivers nonstop table energy. The primary gameplay objective centers on card collection and reflex speed: players flip cards into a shared central pile, racing to be the first to identify when an animal’s front half matches its corresponding rear end, shout out the correct creature sound, and claim the cards.
The primary mechanical hurdle stems from processing split animal illustrations while managing physical interruptions and sudden vocal triggers under real-time pressure. The deck is filled with colorful, split-card depictions of animals—such as goats, dogs, sloths, flamingos, and parrots—divided into "front" and "butt" halves. Players flip cards face-up in rapid succession. The moment a revealed card completes an animal already showing on the table (a front matching a butt), players must race to make that animal’s specific noise (e.g., barking, bleating, squawking). Being the slowest player—or making the wrong sound—forces you to forfeit cards to your opponents. Special action cards keep everyone alert, including sudden scramble moments and the fabric "poop patch" that sits in the middle of the table, requiring players to slap it down to avoid penalties. Once the deck is exhausted, the player who has snagged the largest collection of matching pairs wins. Designed for 2 to 6 players aged 6 and up, each round wraps up in a brisk 15 to 20 minutes. To claim victory, you must keep your eyes peeled, your reflexes primed, and your animal impressions ready.
