Set sail across tropical isles, build pirate lairs, trade resources with the friendly market, and enlist Coco the Parrot to outsmart the spooky Ghost Captain.
Catan Junior (published by Catan Studio / Asmodee) introduces younger players and families to the iconic world of Catan through accessible, lighthearted mechanics. Trading European settlement building for swashbuckling pirate exploration, players take on the roles of daring captains establishing hideouts across a ring of exotic islands. The primary gameplay objective centers on resource generation, route expansion, and race-to-goal construction: players roll dice to collect nautical resources—wood, goats, molasses, and cutlasses—trading with the open market and building ships to expand their network until they successfully control seven pirate lairs.
The primary mechanical hurdle stems from balancing resource allocation against the movements of the Ghost Captain, a friendly equivalent to the original game's robber. Instead of stealing cards when rolled, the Ghost Captain simply blocks resource production on the island he occupies until moved. Players can also draw helpful Coco the Parrot helper cards to gain powerful turn-by-turn advantages. Designed for 2 to 4 players aged 6 and up, a complete pirate voyage runs in a brisk 30 minutes. To claim victory as the master of the seas, you must manage your island networks, secure steady resource tiles, and race your opponents to the final lair.
