Sort colorful volumes into cozy domestic reading nooks, recharge your social battery through quiet bookish satisfaction, and venture into the village bookstore to expand your personal library.
A Place for All My Books (designed by Alex Cutler and Michael Mihealsick, illustrated by Naomi Lord, and published by Smirk & Dagger Games, Item #SND1025) is an affectionate, "zen-like" competitive optimization puzzle that turns the lifestyle of an introverted bookworm into an engaging tabletop contest. Players manage their personal apartments—arranging colorful book tiles into stacks across the Bedroom, Den, Bathroom, and Kitchen. The primary gameplay objective centers on pattern building, contract fulfillment, and resource management: players complete individual "Little Projects" and communal "Major Accomplishments" by organizing book heights and color sequences, replenishing their energy to venture out into the Village for new books and cozy decorative accessories.
The primary mechanical hurdle stems from balancing your Social Battery between home organization and town excursions. When spending turns inside your apartment taking actions like Gather, Sort, Rest, or Read, your social battery steadily recharges. Stacking matching colors and arranging specific heights allows you to execute the Admire action, cashing in multiple completed Little Project cards in a single stroke for immediate rewards and end-game Victory Points. However, staying cooped up won't score the biggest hauls—you must burn collected social energy to travel to the central Village board. In town, players purchase new book tiles from the Bookstore, acquire "Other Neat Stuff" accessory cards from village shops, and advance the shared Sun Track. The game also features a dedicated solo mode against Penelope Eveready, an extroverted rival driven by an automated deck. Designed for 1 to 4 players aged 10 and up, a match plays out in 45 to 60 minutes. To build the ultimate home library, you must time your social outings carefully, chain your pattern scoring efficiently, and ensure every beloved book finds its proper home.
