Predict your tricks with pinpoint accuracy, claim colored seals matching your bids, and avoid taking stray tricks that plunge your score into apocalyptic penalties in a legendary, high-stakes trick-taking card game.
The 7th Seal (Multilingual Edition) (designed by Stefan Dorra and published in multilingual format by Amigo / Devir / Dux Somnium Games) is widely celebrated as one of the most tense and unforgiving trick-taking designs ever created. Moving away from standard point-trick mechanics where winning tricks is universally good, this game introduces a razor-sharp bidding and penalty structure themed around apocalyptic omens. The primary gameplay objective centers on exact contract fulfillment: players predict not only how many tricks they will win in a round, but specifically which colored suits those tricks will contain, claiming corresponding colored seal tokens and attempting to discard them all before the hand concludes.
The primary mechanical hurdle stems from the brutal penalty calculation for unmatched tricks. At the start of a round, players take seal tokens from a central supply to represent their bids across five distinct colored suits. When you win a trick of a specific color, you return that colored seal back to the box. However, winning a trick in a suit for which you hold no seal forces you to take a black penalty seal—or a colored seal from the central pool. If the supply of seals runs dry, the apocalyptic "Seventh Seal" is broken, triggering an immediate round end. At the end of the hand, any seals remaining in front of players score heavy negative points, meaning overshooting your bid or miscalculating card distribution can instantly tank your standing. Designed for 3 to 5 players aged 10 and up, a match plays out over a suspenseful 30 to 45 minutes. To survive, you must calculate card distributions, bait opponents into taking unwanted colors, and execute your contract with absolute precision.
