Requiring the core 20 Strong system (for its 20 custom dice and tracking chips), the primary gameplay objective centers on journeying through escalating tiers of grim encounters, conserving your dice pool, leveling up your hero, and toppling an iconic Avalon boss before your health or sanity gives out.

The primary mechanical hurdle stems from balancing combat mitigation with the unique status afflictions and tactical hazards characteristic of Tainted Grail. Players draw and confront encounter cards that feature multiple challenge lanes, nasty enemy retaliations, and grim dilemmas.
