How to Design a Role-Playing Game – Gnome Games Green Bay West

Gnome Games and Preston Shah

Preston Shah is leading a conversation about How to Design a Role-Playing Game on Saturday, July 19th at 1pm.

This is what he has to say:

“Hey everyone, I’ve got something really cool to tell you. Back in 1991, I formed a publishing company “Surreal Voyages” and self-published several role-playing games and supplements for them. I even had a business license, seller’s permits and collected taxes and gave you receipts. I made a profit in the first year! It was desktop publishing, which was all the rage at that time. If you wanted a copy of my game, I printed it out for you on that old paper where I had to tear off the strips and separate each page. Then, I three-hole punched it and there you go! Later, I designed arguably a solar punk game (long before the concept) and that had the spiral binder, which was the mark of an indie game at the time. It was actually sold on the shelves at Fortress Games, a game store on University Avenue back in the day. My friend, Jocelyn, arranged for me to talk about How to Design a Role-Playing Game at Gnome Games West. I plan to discuss the theory, philosophy, history, and practical applications of the various elements that go into designing your own role-playing game.

This will occur at Gnome Games West 2160 S. Ridge Road. On July 19 (Saturday) at 1:00PM.

Do yourself a favor and check it out-it will be informative and lots of fun!”

For those who’re looking into designing their own role-playing games, or games in general, this is an opportunity to meet some of the local creative talents in the RPG field!
