Gnome Talk: Chris Newbury’s Learning from J.R.R.

Welcome to another exciting Gnome Talk! At 2pm on Sunday, September 28th, Chris Newbury will be talking about the Lord of the Rings, J.R.R. Tolkien’s influence on fantasy table-top role-playing games and more!
“J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings established the canon of modern fantasy fiction and became a base influence for fantasy tabletop role-playing games, but as game masters what can we still learn from Tolkien today? Are there things we should leave behind from Tolkien’s work in 2025? Why did Gary Gygax dislike Tolkien’s work so much? We’ll discuss Tolkien’s world building, language, themes, and more; as well as existing Lord of the Rings role-playing games and what thematically appropriate mechanics they used.”
Writers, players, Game Masters alike: join the Gnome Community for a discussion on how modern fantasy has been shaped!
