Trogdor the Burninator arrives later this fall!

Trogdor the Burninator arrives at the Gnome In October – Preorder today!

Trogdor! The Board Game – A game of Cooperative Burnination and Majesty!

In the kingdom of Peasantry, the beefy-armed dragon Trogdor the Burninator has one goal: the total destruction of the countryside! Players take on the roles of the Keepers of Trogdor, mysterious acolytes of the Burninator who use their unique abilities and items to help Trogdor in his destructive quest. Burninate the countryside and its cottages by flipping them to their flaming side! Chomp peasants for health or fry them for fun! Do all this while avoiding knights and archers and majesty shall be yours! Er… shall be Trogdor’s… more accurately.

Features:

  • Screen Printed Wooden Meeples
  • Collectible Quality Painted Plastic Miniatures (play with the meeples, put the minis on the shelf!)
  • Double-Sided Flippable Map Tiles

Homestar Runner will be sending Trogdor! The Board Game, a cooperative board game to Gnome Games in October!

This game is inspired by the Trogdor, the Burninator character from Homestar Runner’s Strong Bad web cartoon series.

Trogdor! The Board Game is a cooperative board game that takes place in the land of Peasantry where players become the Keepers of Trogdor. Their goal is to use various action and item cards to help Trogdor work his way around a 25-tile board, and turn each countryside tile to its “burninated” side. However, the peasants aren’t going to take Trogdor’s assault lying down. They fight back by sending knights and archers after Trogdor to impede his progress.

Players take their turns controlling Trogdor. On their turn, they can use action points to bestow action and item cards on Trogdor so he can more optimally burn obstacles, eat peasants, and flip tiles. The game continues until the players either win by flipping all of the countryside tiles to their ‘burninated’ side, or lose when Trogdor’s health runs out before the tiles are all flipped.

Trogdor! The Board Game is for one to six players, ages 14 and up, and plays in 45 minutes. It will retail for $60.00.

Preorder Trogdor! online today and the Gnomes will have it waiting for you at your favorite Gnome Games store!

Preorder Trogdor the Board Game Online before October 5th for just $54.99 and we’ll let you know when it’s in at your favorite Gnome Games store!

The Grizzled – We’ll get through this if we work together

The Grizzled – We’ll get through this if we work together…

The Grizzled is one of the very best in cooperative games the Gnomes have available to enjoy.  It’s fun, fast, quick to learn and the cooperative aspects are handled in a way that prevents the know-it-all player from dominating the game.

Cool Mini presents a reflection upon the challenges faced by soldiers in the trenches of World War I, and does a wonderful job at presenting the ‘we’ll get through this if we all work together’ camaraderie of soldiers on the battlefield.

The Grizzled game play

The Grizzled supports 2-5 players and plays in about half an hour. The mechanics are simple and rounds are played quickly.

It is also a surprisingly difficult game to win.

One player takes on the role of the leader and determines the difficultly of a mission and assigns it a numerical value. The leader then deals that number of cards to each player. Players must then take actions, either revealing a card from their hand that represents a challenge to their group (a trial) or themselves (a hard knock); giving an inspiring speech, which removes up to one specific trial from each of the other players’ hands; using a lucky charm, which removes an already played trial; or withdrawing from the front line.

Trials come in six different types (night, snow, rain, whistles, gas masks, and shells) and hard knocks are a type of detriment to your soldier. Some cards have a combination of multiple trials, or a mix of trials and hard knocks. If a specific mission has 3 types of the same trial as revealed by players, the mission is a failure. Then the players have a more difficult time returning home to their families. If a round ends with a player carrying 4 or more hard knocks, the game ends as a failure.

Players who withdraw from the front line use a support token from their hand, if they have one. Players don’t reveal who they’re supporting until the end of the round. If one player receives more support tokens than others, they can remove 2 hard knocks or renew a depleted lucky charm.

Players are  simply trying to reach the bottom of the trials deck and empty their hands of trials cards. When the players accomplish this, it returns their soldiers safe to their families and the players win the game. We’ll all make it home if we work together.

Watch the Cool Mini Video, then head to the Gnome and grab a copy of the Grizzled today!

Welcome to the haunted manor of Mysterium!

In the 1920’s, Mr. MacDowell, a gifted astrologist, entered in his new house when he immediately detected a supernatural being. Gathering  eminent mediums of his time for an extraordinary seance, they will have  7 hours to contact the ghost and investigate to unlock an old mystery…

Unable to talk, the amnesic ghost will communicate with the mediums through visions (illustrated cards). They will have to decipher the images to help the ghost remember how he was murdered (who? where? which weapon?). The more they cooperate and guess well, the easier it will be  to the catch the right culprit.

This party game was one of the most anticipated games of 2015, thanks to innovative, thrilling and immersive features. It offers cooperation and investigation with an asymmetrical gameplay. While playing the ghost or a medium, you will have fun trying to guess what other players have in their minds!

So enter in this strange manor and let yourself be led by your intuition!

Grab a snack from our food vendors and take a gander at the Voodoo Hoodoo gift shop.

We can’t wait to see you scared!

THE LEGEND….

In the 1800’s, lumber tycoon Jaden West erected his masterpiece mansion along the northern shores of Shawano Lake. Shawano Manor, as the legend goes, had all of the amenities that only a select few could afford at the time. In the fall of 1894, West’s mutilated remains were found by his faithful servant, Mr. Adraniam Roscoe, and the legend says the death was at the hands of jealous sawmill workers. Rumor had it that the workers were unhappy with West’s spoils at their hard work. While accusations flew and suspects were plentiful, no arrests were ever made.

Following his death, the local constable acquired the estate. The first night, his jet black hair shocked ghost white, and seemingly immediately, he went stark raving mad. Sanitarium records claim he carried on about spirits in the Manor, and no therapy nor treatment could dissuade those delusions. From that point on, strange rumors continue to fly about what actually happened that night, and the once decadent mansion fell into disrepair while the urban legend continued to flourish, and the spirits continued to rule the Manor.

In the year 2000, Shawano Manor was set to be demolished by the state of Wisconsin. We were able to work with the salvage company to restore what remained of the mansion, and relocate it to the corner of Taylor and Bond Streets, where it stands today.

What are the Gnomes Playing this Christmas? (Gnome Games Staff Picks – Part 1)

What are the Gnomes playing this Christmas? Here are some of the Gnome Games staff holiday game selections.

It’s that time of the year again for games with family and friends around the tree.

Not sure what to play? Look at some of the Gnome Games staff favorites from this year!

Codenames – Bri

Codenames is a great team based social deduction game that really tests your vocabulary.

Codenames is a 2 to 8+ player game where your goal is to find all your team’s spies hidden by their coded names before the other team uncovers all of theirs. Each team has one team member that knows where all the spies are and is giving the team clues. Be warned though, you can’t use any of the words that are on the board! You only get one word and a number per round as a hint to your team. For example, “animal three” means I want you to guess three words that are related in some way to the word animals. Your team can guess as many words as they would like before passing their turn to the other team. If at any point while you are uncovering your spies you come across the other team’s spy, it automatically becomes their turn. If you accidentally uncover the assassin, your team automatically loses! Test your descriptive words and uncover all your spies to become victorious!

  • Number of Players: 2- 8+
  • For Ages: 8+
  • Playing Time: 25 – 40 Minutes

Dice Forge – Robin

The game where you get to change what’s on the face of your dice as part of the game!

Can you best the trials of the divine to prove your worth and become a demigod? Roll dice to collect resources and take on challenges to earn more glory than your opponents! Purchase new faces for your dice to upgrade them and customize your strategy. Resources can be spent to defeat monsters and gain bonuses that will help you come out on top! With quick and easy setup and tons of different strategies to try Dice Forge has great replayability!

  • Number of Players: 2-4
  • For Ages: 10+
  • Playing Time: 40 Minutes

Bang! – Josiah

Bang! Is an old-west shootout played with cards, bluffing, and some degree of outright luck. One player is chosen as the “Sheriff” while each other player is assigned a secret role from outlaw to deputy to renegade. Each player has a mission to accomplish and must eliminate some, or all, of the other players, sometimes in a specific order. Nobody knows for sure who they can trust, and everyone has a gun…you can imagine how this is going to end (Bonus points if you are playing at high noon).

Bang! combines the best elements of several types of games, which allows it to appeal to many different ages and interests. The unique and sometimes comical characters allow both personal strategies, due to their individual abilities and specialties, and the potential for interesting storytelling if you so desire. The cards are all useful in their own way, so you don’t need to worry about your game being ruined by a bad hand of cards, but there is still enough of an element of random chance for those who enjoy a more chaotic gameplay experience.

It’s impossible to talk about Bang! Without mentioning the expansions. There are seven (or eight if you count “the duel”) to choose from and the ones you will enjoy will vary depending on what you are looking for. Personally, I would recommend picking up “The Bullet” expansion bundle (it looks like a giant bullet, you can’t miss it) which includes the first three expansions (High Noon, Dodge City, Fistful of Cards) as well as a sheriff’s badge and a few exclusive characters. “The Bullet” also allows you to expand your game to the full eight players, and includes the variant decks to make your game that much more complex (once you have grasped the basics).

  • Number of Players: 4 – 7
  • For Ages: 8+
  • Playing Time: 20 -40 Minutes

Dragonfire – Sarah O

The dungeon is old and crumbling. The dust of the ages lies undisturbed on the threshold, and the light from your torches now flickers against the damp walls. You and your companions have found your way towards it to prove your worth as adventurers. However, as the growls and screeches of the monsters within reach your ears, you wonder if it was actually worth the trip. It will take your collective wits to make it out of this one alive…

Dragonfire is an incredibly well designed cooperative deck-building game, set in the Dungeons and Dragons universe. Players get to choose their favorite classes as a starting “character”, which they will build and develop over the course of however many games you choose to play. Each class will have access to different numbers and types of resources (for instance, Wizards will have more access to Arcane resources) which can be used to purchase specialty attacks or spells to improve individual decks. These attacks and spells can be used as you face off against a stack of monsters, which flip in and attack your heroes as they traverse through the dungeon.

In Dragonfire – If your adventurers make it through the entire dungeon by defeating all the monsters in the monster deck, you win the game! But if these monsters overwhelm your heroes, it may claim their lives, and the game will be lost…

This game, beyond proving to be a fantastic cooperative game, also encourages constantly evolving strategy. For each dungeon you and your party defeat, you gain a certain number of experience points (XP) which can be exchanged for permanent upgrades to your character. Other expansion packs offer new class options and new loot to be found in the dungeons. Overall, Dragonfire is a highly entertaining and highly replayable game for 2-6 players, so if you like cooperative games with a fantasy twist, this will be right up your alley!

Legendary – Colby

Loki is up to his tricks again! He is trying to unleash the power of the cosmic cube on earth! This time he has brought friends straight from Asgard! Ymir the Frost Giant, Enchantress, the Destroyer and so many more. The heroes take to the streets attempting to tame the madness. It is up to you, the head of S.H.I.E.L.D. to bring those heroes together and stop Loki!!!

In Legendary you play as the man behind the screen at S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters. Before each game you select one big bad villain and build a deck of minor villains to help them out. Then you select a single scheme/plot for that villain to attempt to accomplish. Once you have built the enemy, you will then select a group of 5 heroes to help you stop them. Each hero has a deck of 14 cards that corresponds to them. Shuffle all 5 hero decks together to build your hero deck. You will be recruiting cards from this deck to use against the villains. The objective is to recruit the hero cards to your deck that fit a style you enjoy. Want to be super powerful and throw extra hard punches each turn? Make sure to pick up all the Hulk cards. Or perhaps you want to build a balanced team, recruit Captain America and pair him with spiderman, wolverine and The Thing.

Anything can happen in Marvel Legendary. BUT WAIT!?!?!

Perhaps Marvel is not your thing. Well lucky for you there are many other versions of this “Legendary” system with a theme for you. Perhaps you want to play your way through the Alien Movies? Maybe play as Arnold Schwarzenegger and take out the predators. Firefly, Buffy, Big Trouble in Little China; the list goes on and on! Pick up your Legendary today at Gnome Games.
